Stanford History PhD Candidate Mackenzie Cooley examines the human and biological reality behind the metaphorical rape of the New World. Cooley is currently completing a dissertation tracing the concept of race from the breeding practices of European nobility to the utopian projects of the Spanish Empire in the Americas.
