Your CMEMS team is thrilled to announce the spring 2023 program of lunchtime workshops. Those interested in the medieval and early modern will be sure to be entertained, inspired, and enlightened by the wonderful variety of topics.

Workshops and Research Groups

CMEMS sponsors and co-sponsors a wide range of workshops and research groups at Stanford!

Each of the research groups provide a range of possibilities for students and faculty to engage in discussion and debate about medieval and early modern scholarship.

CMEMS Weekly Workshop

  • The focal point of CMEMS, this lunchtime workshop exists to engage the interdisciplinary cohort of medieval and early modern scholars at Stanford in an ongoing discussion and collaboration.

Medieval Studies Workshop

  • Organizing research workshops, reading groups, and medieval Latin lessons, this workshop serves graduate students at Stanford on any aspect of the Middle Ages broadly understood.

Speculum Reading Group

  • Centered around the leading medieval studies journal Speculum, this student-faculty group meets quarterly to discuss the latest issues in medieval studies.

Medieval and Early Modern Paleography Workshop

  • Using Stanford University Library Special Collections' collection of medieval and early modern sources, this faculty-graduate workshop meets monthly to transcribe unpublished medieval and early modern sources.

Graduate Research Funding

CMEMS is proud to offer Research and Travel Grants to PhD students and candidates to support their research, either pre-dissertation or dissertational work.
